HOME Program Coming in July – Sign Up to Provide Meals
July 1 at 8:00 am-July 31 at 11:30 pm
St. James will be hosting the HOME shelter program during the month of July.
The HOME program is a year-round overnight shelter for single adult men ages 18 and older. The HOME shelter directly addresses the issues of homelessness in South King County by providing a safe place for homeless men to sleep and receive a hot meal, as well as giving them the opportunity to stabilize and work on self-sufficiency through case management. Men who stay at the shelter are provided with case management services which focus on addressing employment goals, mental health and CD issues, Veterans’ services, securing permanent affordable housing and health care for each individual.
The shelter rotates monthly among more than 15 local churches and organizations. Volunteers provide meals for about 30 participants and a safe place to sleep, which allows them to focus on rebuilding their lives and obtaining permanent employment and housing.
Last year, our St. James community came together as families, coworkers, civic groups, and friends all pitching in to bring food, care, and love to the men in the program. Everyone had an amazing experience and we know you will want to participate as well. If you like to cook for a crowd and want to help in the effort to provide a safe and secure housing location for displaced men, please reserve time during the month of July to help.
