Born and raised in Washington State, The Rev. Joyce Parry-Moore traveled to Boston and New York for a career in classical singing, then to Alaska to found a traveling opera company, and to Berkeley to attend seminary at the Graduate Theological Union. Her ordained ministries have included serving as Youth and Families Director for Holy Innocent’s Church in San Francisco, as Chaplain for the Seamen’s Church at the Port of Oakland, as assisting priest at St. Pauls’ Church in downtown Oakland, Rector of St. Bartholomew’s Church in Livermore, CA, and now has come full circle as Rector of St. James here in Kent WA. In addition to focusing on the connection between arts, religion and social justice, Joyce completed her Doctorate of Ministries studies in Pastoral Counseling, and is a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Married to Patrick Moore – an actor and teacher – they have raised a blended family of four now-adult offspring (who have added three spouses and six grandchildren to the mix) and are still living with their teenage daughter, who aspires to a career in theater and therapy. Joyce and Patrick enjoy good literature, films and visual art, hiking, dancing and laughing. Lots of laughing.
